Wool Fiber Jacob Spin or Felt
Weight: Approximately
Jacob Sheep wool roving
Hand dyed spice and amethyst
These sheep are locally raised in Pennsylvania.
Wonderful for spinning and felting.
Jacob Sheep Breeders Association states: Jacob Sheep have graced the large estates and country homes of England for many centuries. Their impressive horns, black and white faces and spotted bodies have no doubt contributed to their popularity and survival. Their actual origins are not known. However, documentation throughout history indicates that the spotted or pied sheep may have originated in what is now Syria some three thousand years ago. Pictorial evidence traces movement of these sheep through North Africa, Sicily, Spain and on to England.
Jacob wool ranges from 26-37 microns and the staple length can be medium to long at a length of 3-7 inches. This makes Jacob wool a sought after fiber for spinners and other fiber artists seeking a durable but soft wool with a good staple length. Even though the diameter of Jacob wool is wider than that of some of the finer wool breeds like Merino, it is very pleasant to work with. It has a fair amount of loft and spring to it, and has just enough luster to give the finished yarn a beautifully subtle sheen
This wool is hand dyed in my smoke free home studio under the watchful eyes of two loving border collies.
Please note I do my best to describe the colors as well as photograph them accurately, some colors may vary from monitor to monitor.
